Ever struggled to teach that second page in a teach how to read the Quran book to a young child?
You’ve reached the point where your children have finally got to grips with the Arabic alphabet – Congratulations! But now comes the mammoth task of teaching them how the alphabet actually works in practice.
Arabic is rather unique in the way that depending on the position of a letter in a word, the letter will look different. So a letter at the beginning of a word, will look different if it were to appear in the middle or at the end of a word, or even if it were to appear on its own. The letter will have some parts of its shape that will remain the same, and any dots will remain constant, but the tails and curves of letters will vary as the position of a letter changes in the word. You almost have to teach the Arabic alphabet four times over before all the letters are recognisable within words.
Teaching how to read the Quran books tend to come with a page focusing on the individual letters, a page with each letter in its various forms and then move onto the next step. This is where Iqra Games’ Arabic Alphabet Snap comes in – helping to teach, learn and practice the letters in their different forms.
The pack provides four sets of flashcards, each set on a different coloured card, making them easy to separate. Blue cards for the letters on their own, red cards for the letters as they would appear at the beginning of a word, green cards for the letters as they would appear in the middle of a word and yellow cards for the letters as the would appear at the end of a word.
The cards can initially be used as flashcards to teach letter recognition though flashcard games (this post has more on flashcard games) and then built up into a game of snap as the children begin to recognise more letters. This allows them to practice the letters in all their forms through games, instead of a sit down reading session – making for a longer yet more enjoyable session for young children.
